Pre-Purchase Assistance

Owning a watercraft is not just an investment, but also a hobby and to many a part of their lifestyle. Pre-purchase survey helps to make informed decisions upon purchasing a watercraft, and to avoid unexpected and costly repairs.

Why is the pre-purchase survey important?

It is obvious that upon purchasing a new watercraft, the buyer can feel fairly confident, however, when it comes to second hand watercrafts, the number of risks could be a lot higher. A watercraft in seemingly flawless condition could hide deficiencies, which could lead to unexpected expenses.

Pre-purchase survey helps to:

  • Avoid unexpected expenses by identifying potential risks prior making the purchase.
  • Negotiate with confidence – whether you’re selling or buying, the survey gives you a factual overview of the watercraft’s current condition. The buyers will have the opportunity to negotiate the price depending on the findings of the surveyor, and the sellers can prove the condition of their watercraft and justify the price.
  • Ensuring safety – the watercraft has to be seaworthy. During the survey, all potential risks to seaworthiness will be highlighted.

Pre-purchase Inspection Includes the following points:

  • During the inspection, facts and observations are gathered about the vessel’s structural condition, documentation, maintenance history, systems, engine, and overall appearance/condition.
  • The hull and underwater part of the vessel should be inspected whenever possible. Arrangements for lifting the vessel out of and back into the water are made by the Client before the inspection. Additionally, the Client is responsible for ensuring the presence of the vessel's owner, representative, or captain to facilitate the inspection.
  • The electronics, electrical equipment, wiring, connections, and other devices are inspected visually and tested for basic on-off functionality.
  • If the Client has not requested sea trials, the inspection of the propulsion and steering systems is carried out visually. If the vessel is out of the water or in winter storage, the mentioned systems are not operated.
  • The inspection also includes a visual examination of the engine and its components/parts.

The above is a brief summary of what the inspection entails.

Price: 375.00 EUR (excluding VAT). This includes all of the above and a short sea trial.
*If the vessel is located outside of Tallinn, an additional fee of €0.30 per km applies.
